Of course, suits were by no means perfect antidotes to bias and other hidden assumptions, but my sense then was that the widespread introduction of business casual unwittingly removed a tool that minority groups had at their disposal for overcoming and lessening incidents of bias and stereotyping, at least in the context of a traditional institution.
